Division: Pony League
Age: 13 year olds Division Coordinator: Steve Carden Fields Generally Used: The big diamond at Fletcher Field (aka Fletcher 3), FHS JV Field, FHS Varsity Field and Remington (right-back) Field. Number of Games: Varies based on the number of teams in the league. Duration of Season: April through June including holiday weekends; generally weeknights and Sundays. Basic Skill Focus: This is the first season on the big field. Coaches are encouraged to try out different pitchers and batting orders. Important Hitting: A full batting roster is used in every game. Min. 9 players required. A player will take his/her turn at bat even if he/she is not playing a defensive position that inning. Bats must be “Babe Ruth” approved. Base Running / Run Scoring: Stealing and leading off is allowed. Runners must slide to avoid contact. Head first slides allowed only while returning to a base. Managers are encouraged to not run up the score as it relates to stealing and advancing on passed balls/wild pitches from third. Twelve run slaughter rule enforced. Pitching: A pitcher may pitch a total of seven innings per week. If a pitcher pitches more than three innings in a game, he/she must have three full days rest. If a pitcher pitches three innings or less, he/she must have one full days rest. Pitching week begins Monday and ends Sunday. Balks are called. Playing Time / Positions Played : All games are seven innings in length. Nine defensive positions are played. Every player must play a minimum of four innings in the field each game. A player participation matrix will be used by the manager to ensure an even amount of playing time throughout the season. Managers are encouraged to make every effort to play each player at least one inning at a skill position. Free substitutions are allowed during all games. Playoff Format: Playoffs are meant to determine the town champion. All teams make the playoffs. All playoff games are single elimination with the exception of the championship series, which is best of three. The schedule and seeding is determined by record. All playoff games are seven innings.
